History of valentine day

January 31st, 2008

As early as the fourth century B.C., the Romans engaged in an annual young rite to passage to the God Lupercus. The names of the teenage women were placed in a box and drawn at random by adolescent men; thus, a man was assigned a woman for the duration of the year, after which another lottery was staged. After eight hundred years of this cruel practice, the early church fathers sought to end this practice… They found an answer in Valentine, a bishop who had been martyred some two hundred years earlier.

According to church tradition St. Valentine was a priest near Rome in about the year 270 A.D. At that time the Roman Emperor Claudius-II who had issued an edict forbidding marriage.
This was around when the heyday of Roman empire had almost come to an end. Lack of quality administrators led to frequent civil strife. Learning declined, taxation increased, and trade slumped to a low, precarious level. And the Gauls, Slavs, Huns, Turks and Mongolians from Northern Europe and Asian increased their pressure on the empire’s boundaries. The empire was grown too large to be shielded from external aggression and internal chaos with existing forces. Thus more of capable men were required to be recruited as soldiers and officers. When Claudius became the emperor, he felt that married men were more emotionally attached to their families, and thus, will not make good soldiers. So to assure quality soldiers, he banned marriages. Valentine, a bishop , seeing the trauma of young lovers, met them in a secret place, and joined them in the sacrament of matrimony. Claudius learned of this “friend of lovers,” and had him arrested. The emperor, impressed with the young priest’s dignity and conviction, attempted to convert him to the roman gods, to save him from certain execution. Valentine refused to recognize Roman Gods and even attempted to convert the emperor, knowing the consequences fully. On February 24, 270, Valentine was executed.

In Malaysia like other countries the valentine day is celebrated among couples. Mostly lovers exchange gifts and flowers. Red Roses are best choice for them.

Chinese new year hampers in Malaysia

January 15th, 2008

Chinese new year is round the corner. It is a really colorful festivals for chinese living round the globe. Different cultural activities are being carried out for many many years. In Malaysia this festival gives an extra touch to the city. The shopping malls and other city buildings will be decorated with lights and other attractive stuff. Prepapration for lion dance has been started. The hampers are ready to be send to love ones in malaysia. The hampers which the peoples use in Malaysia is totally different than other part of the world. I have seen the tower hampers in a pyramidal shape. They look very nice and attractive. Mostly the hampers consist of edible things and colour combination is very nice. To make a such kind of hamper is also an art. I have tried few times and atlast succeded. The normal basket hamper is easy but the tower hamper really needs some skills. I have a very close look in the assembling of hamper and find that the base of the hamper one have to put the big boxes as you assemble upward the smaller packets being used. If some one want to make this hamper at house, you need a base basket either plastic or rattan, gift food packs, plastic paper and transparent tape. Start from down at the base and slowly go up. At the top one can put wine or juice bottle to give an extra touch. Your tower hamper will be ready. You may feel that you have made a mini sky scrapper.

Movies at Your Fingertips

March 12th, 2007

For the past few years, home electronics manufacturers have been trying to outrace one another to pack as much data onto a single disk. It is common knowledge that Japanese companies have always been on the forefront of these technologies. It is no secret either, that we have been provided with so many options when it comes to high capacity disk storage – from hard disks to optical discs. The problem sometimes lies in the fact that it may be quite an arduous task to find the exact movie or song that you want.

Again, the Japanese come to the rescue. Japanese company NEC has developed a system which makes searching for content as easy as one two three. Dubbed “topic division technology,” it makes use of voice patterns which are analyzed. The analyzed data is then used as the key words or phrases for searching. As such, one can find almost any content quite easily.
